-March 1995, the band begins recording Mellon Collie
and The Infinite Sadness
-In August 1995, the band finishes recording the new
album. They begin the Infinite Sadness Tour on the
22nd in Dublin.
-October 1995, the day before Mellon Collie is released
, the Pumpkins held a release party at the Riveria 
Theater in Chicago where they previewed some of the
new songs. Cheap Trick was the opener. Mellon Collie
was released the next day. It debuted at #1, and the
limited edition 2 track Bullet with Butterfly Wings Single
was released.
-January 1996, 1979 was released, they played it on
the American Music Awards on the 29th.
-May 1996,17 year old Bernadette O'Brien suffers fatal
injuries in a mosh pit during a concert in Dublin on the
12th.SP appeared in the Simpsons season finale,
"Hullabalooza".
-July 1996, Jonathan Melvoin, their touring keyboardist,
dies of a drug overdose and Jimmy Chamberlin is
arrested on the 12th.On the 17th,Jimmy is fired from
the band.
-August 1996,Dennis Flemion is named their new
touring keyboardist and Matt Walker(their new
touring drummer). Sweet Relief II is released with "Sad
Peter Pan" on it.
-September 1996,they perform "Tonight,Tonight" and
win 7 awards(including Video of the Year) at the MTV
VMA on the 4th.
-October 1996,Jimmy Chamberlin pleads to a lesser
charge of disorderly conduct during his court date.
-November 1996,The Aeroplane Flies High box set is
released on the 26th. The Ransom soundtrack was also
released this month.
-January 1997,Billy Corgan did two duets with David
Bowie during Bowie's 50th birthday concert.SP won
"Favorite Alternative Artist" at The American Music
Awards.The band sues their music publisher.
-February 1997,the Infinite Sadness ends on the 5th in
New Orleans. Lost Highway Soundtrack is released,
with the SP song, "Eye". The Pumpkins perform "1979"
at the Grammy's, and win Best Hard Rock Performance
for "Bullet with Butterfly Wings"
-June 1997, the Batman and Robin Soundtrack is
released, as well as "The End is the Beginning is the 
End" single. "The Beginning is the End is the Beginning"
was also featured on the soundtrack. The Pumpkins
played a show at the Double Doors under the 
pseudonym of "Audio Vanguard Association" on the
22nd.
-July 1997, The Pumpkins earn 4 MTV VMA nominations
for the "The End is the Beginning in the End", but they
wouldn't win any awards in September.
-October 1997, Very Special Christmas 3 is released
with "Christmastime" on it. The Pumpkins played the
Bridge School Benefit, playing 3 new songs, "To Sheila",
"Ava Adore", and "Behold! The Night Mare". John 
Melvoin's wife settles with the band for her lawsuit 
against them. On the 6th, Ivy releases their album
Apartment Life. James Iha plays guitar on "Quick,
Painless and Easy", and vocals on "Back in Our Town". -November 1997-The Pumpkins open for Jane's Addiction. -December 1997, Matt Walker plays his last show with the band. When they opened for Rolling Stones on the 5th.
