Era Milestones and History:
Rotten Apples-Greatest Hits-Certified Gold (December 17, 2001) SP 1991-2000 Greatest Hits Video-Certified Gold (December 17, 2001)
-Early 2001, Zwan, a band featuring Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin forms. (for more info on Zwan, go to the Zwan Omnipedia) -February 2001-Cheap Trick releases Silver, a live double cd of their 25th Anniversary show from 1999. Billy Corgan performed a few songs with them at that show. Melissa Auf Der Maur is named Best Female Bassist at the Gibson Awards. She also records a bass part for the latest Rufus Wainwright album. -March 2001-During the month, James starts his own clothing line called "Vapor", Billy performs with Marrianne Faithful during 3rd Waltz at Metro, and Jimmy is inducted into Joliet's Hall of Fame. -In April, James Iha produces Japanese pop star, Chara's new album;later on in the month he performed live with former Shudder to Think guitarist, Nathan Larson. -May 2001-Billy appears on Guitar Legend's Top 100 list and he becomes an interim touring guitarist for New Order. SP's "I am One" is featured on a compilation for Hut Recordings 10th Anniversary. -June 2001-the soundtrack to the Comedy Central show, "Mr. Show". Mellissa appears on the soundtrack.
-July 2001-Billy makes an appearance at the first Act IV on the 7th. He announces plans for the release of a Greatest Hits CD/DVD, as well as a DVD of the final Metro show. Chicago Mayor Daly declares the day once again, "Smashing Pumpkins Day". Billy, Jimmy, and Chris Holmes perform a cover of Bob Dylan's "Forever Young" during the Bozo The Clown farewell special. Billy also becomes Sleeping at Last's executive producer and also continues to tour with New Order. On the 10th, Ivy's Long Distance is released in North America. As noted before, James plays guitar on "Midnight Sun".
-September 2001-Plans for the 'Glass and the Machines of God' cartoon on Screenblast are revealed. These plans would later be ill-fated due to problems with Sony among other things.
-October 2001-The "Graceful Swans of Never" documentary is posted on the Official SP website in 6 installments. Also during the month, MTV Europe premiere's the "Untitled" video to promote the Greatest Hits CD/DVD. James goes into the studio to record the Beatles song, "Hey Bulldog" with The Blank Theory. -In November, the "Untitled" single, as well as the Greatest Hits CD/DVDs were post-humously released. Billy appeared on Politically Incorrect for a 3rd time, promoting Zwan and the SP Greatest Hits releases. "Graceful Swans" was screened in full at locations throughout North America. -On December 5th, SP was honored by the Chicago Chapter of The Record Academy with the 2001 Heroes Award for musical achievement in the local community. -In January, Melissa performs her first show with her Black Sabbath tribute band, Hands of Doom at a NYC club. -On February 6th, Melissa performs again, this time with her new original band, Chelsea. The other members of Chelsea were Paz (A Perfect Circle and later, Zwan), Melissa Mahoney (ex-Hole drummer), and Radio Sloan. Chelsea performed at spaceland in LA. -March 23, 2003-Billy and Jimmy perform at the 4th Waltz benefit.
-April 2002-An interview/article written by James Iha appears in Spin Magazine. -June 2002-At the start of the month, it was revealed that the DVD of the final SP show at Metro would be put on hold. James Iha performs with The Blank Theory at Metro on the 20th. On the 29th, Hands of Doom played their first Canadian date in Montreal. -July 2002-Hands of Doom performs during Edgefest in Barrie on Canada Day. Two screenings of Graceful Swans took place at Gene Siskel Memorial Theatre in Chicago on the 6th and 11th surrounding the events of Act IV 2002. -August 2002-Marrianne Faithful's album, Kissing Time is released. Billy Corgan collaborated with her on three songs: "I'm on Fire", "Where Ever I Go", and "Something Good" -September 2002-It was reported by a Swedish website that James Iha was allegedly assaulted and robbed while in the country, working with a Swedish artist. Also, a song by James Iha called "Never Ever" surfaces in the US. It was released earlier in Japan in the 2002-2003 Vapor catalog. The song is described as sounding reminiscent of early SP Adore era material. -November 20, 2002-Vieuphoria is released as a DVD with extras including 40 minutes of concert footage from 1994 called "The Lost Basement Tapes". The CD companion to the video, Earphoria was also re-released. This time it was a commercial wide release rather than a limited promotion. -February 2003-It was reported that James Iha, as well as Foo Fighters' Dave Grohl would be appearing on Melissa Auf Der Maur's solo album, set for release sometime in the summer of 2003. -March 2003-On the 9th, Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin performed at the Fifth Waltz at Metro. They both performed seperately for a few songs, as well as collaborating with jazz vocalist, Kurt Elling by covering Jimi Hendrix's "Freedom". -In April, Lisa Marie Presley's debut album, To Whom It May Concern was released. The album featured a collaboration between Lisa and Billy Corgan. Billy co-wrote and played guitar on the song, "Savior". -June 2003-James Iha appears on Fountains of Wayne album, "Welcome Interstate Managers". -July 2003-After some rumours and speculation, James Iha officially joins A Perfect Circle.
